Brooklyn

Event extended!

by marclombardo on August 23, 2009

We did it guys. For all of you who came out to the event, THANK YOU! In just 5 hours, Omar raised around $1,600. So 21% of that will go towards making his business more environmentally responsible. For all of those who didn’t come, don’t think you’re off the hook yet.

We raised a decent amount of money today for Bedford Deli and Grocery but it wasn’t nearly enough for a major change. But Rome wasn’t built in a day, so on that note….

We are having ANOTHER Brooklyn Carrotmob event; NEXT SATURDAY! We need to come out and be bigger and badder this time. We need to have a huge line or mass of people surrounding the store so everyone else can’t help but shop there. Everyone needs to know why they should shop at this store.

We’ll keep you updated….

Keep on Keepin’ On Carrotmobians!

Hey everyone!

by marclombardo on

SUNDAY SUNDAY SUNDAY

The event is happening this sunday! I hope you’ve been holding off on groceries because this is where you should be buying them. Just a reminder to everyone, we have selected Omar’s store “Bedford Deli and Grocery ” because he agreed to bid the highest percentage for environmental improvements. When we started the bidding process there were over ten different stores on Bedford who put forth their bids. Omar had the winning bid of 21 percent and that means after the event, 21 percent of the profits will go toward improvements in his store to make it more efficient. Omar is  willing to go green and needs our help as consumers. So bring your friends, the more money we spend here the more change it will make! We are aiming to get people there from 11-4pm though the store owner is anticipating it to go later.

Carrotmob.org explains the idea of Carrotmob with a fun and informative video and with a great in depth FAQ page. Check it out.

Marc.

They are the Champions

by marclombardo on July 28, 2009

As the excited employee of the store sang, “We are the champions” we decided on the store that would be our winning bidder! Bedford’s Deli and Grocery off of N 8th won with 21%. The owner is really nice and is excited for this to work out.

Now the fun part begins, parties and promotion! As I type this, we are planning a promotional party at a local bar in Williamsburg (stay tuned to find out which one) and we are just trying to get the word out to anyone and everyone.

The actual event will take place on Sunday, August 16th. Now is where we need the support of everyone. So get the word out! We are trying to advertise as creative and green as possible, so here are some fun ideas for you to try…

1. Business cards made out of absolutely anything around the house; cut up cereal boxes, other business cards, books you’re never going to read, etc.

2. Buy a stamp or get one for free from vistaprint.com when you sign up for their website. The one we have just says carrotmob.org.

3. Make t-shirts with event information on it.

4. Yell down the streets, start your own mini parade, just tell everyone.

So save the date, August 16th, and we will start posting more often with more information. Maybe you can start visiting the store so you’ll be a pro by the time the event comes.

Your friends of the mob,

Marc and Julie

Carrotmob back in Brooklyn

by marclombardo on May 17, 2009

Hey everyone! A big YO from Carrotmob Brooklyn. This is round two for BK and we are super excited after the amazing 2008 event in december(Park Slope). Now we watch as the sun burns hot and the clothing becomes less frequent. Ah, Summer approaches.

One day as a group of us stood in the middle of one of Williamsburg’s busy Bedford streets ( and I was amazed how many stores already are energy efficient) it came to me. What better way to launch a summer of cutting edge activism but in one of the hipster capitals of the world?

And so it is, dearest mobbers, we’ve targeted a string of Bodegas on Bedford Ave and are currently involved in the bidding process! Our team covers all areas of expertise from our Kung Fu expert ( thankfully we never have to use this skill with something as positive and peaceful as Carrotmob) to a girl who’s an acting undergrad. Yep, all bases covered. Now we want to recruit you for the cause and get you involved in one of the most progressive and positive ideas in our times.

Lets embrace our communities, reward our local businesses for socially responsible decisions, and save the world while we’re at it!  So put away the sticks and unoriginal boycott signs and get out those carrots! Lets lure these businesses in the right direction.

If you folks have no idea what I’m talking about please consult the following fun and educational video and website:

http://www.carrotmob.org

Also…

And don’t forget.

To see the latest 2008 event in action. Amazing job all around.

MORE TO COME SOON : The Burgs 2009 Carrotmob event promotion party!

Beers( and  other beverages like carrot juice for those who don’t partake. ) , carrots, costumes, dancing, art made of recycled garbage and more! All in the name of the glory that is the mob of the carrots.

I’ll keep ya posted.

Marc
